Weekly NerdArt Picks | 2-22-17

It’s time for the Weekly NerdArt Picks! A busy week at work makes me a little late on posting this week’s NerdArt Picks, but better late than never, eh?

Science Fiction

Pick of the Week:

This week’s Scifi NerdArt of the Week Pick is Code R by Chandler-lieve from over at DeviantArt.

I like this piece because it makes me want to know what happened that this room was exposed to the vacuum of space. Was it weapon damage, an accident or is it intentional? (Click on the image for the artist’s post and a larger view.)

Runner Up:

This week’s Scifi NerdArt of the Week Runner-Up is Scorpion vs. Dominion Fighter by Euderion over at DeviantArt.

Most of my picks so far have been original concept/characters. However, this one struck me a bit because I’ve always found Star Trek’s lack of fighters and drones to be a little odd. All battles are done with giant ships. This takes the idea that maybe the Federation could have a heavy fighter. (Click on the image for the artist’s post and a larger view.)

BONUS!:

This week’s Scifi NerdArt of the Week includes a special bonus: Exoplanets by Vadim Sadovski over at ArtStation. After NASA’s recent TRAPPIST-1 announcement,

I couldn’t resist posting this find. Think about it, seven Earth-sized planets, and three of them are in the star’s habitable zone! This is a colonist’s wet dream. (Click on the image for the artist’s post and a larger view.)

Fantasy

Top Pick:

This week’s Fantasy NerdArt of the Week Pick is Lunch Break at the Workshop by Erik Taberman over at ArtStation.

I went a little Steampunk-y with this week’s choice, but this one really spoke to me. The detail in the people’s expressions and their lunch spread out on the work table drew me in.   (Click on the image for the artist’s post and a larger view.)

Runner Up:

This week’s Fantasy NerdArt of the Week Runner-Up is BlackWings by LadyOwl over at Deviant Art.

I was a little curious about this piece. Now, most of the time, one could automatically assume the demon is holding onto its fallen foe in victory. But something about it made me think differently. To me, this looks almost like the demon is holding his friend who has recently fallen in battle, almost as if the demon came to help but got there too late. And right there, the idea of a friendship between demon and angel, interested me.… (Click on the image for the artist’s post and a larger view.)

Horror

Top pick:

This week’s Horror NerdArt of the Week Pick is Join Me in Death by Rowye (and Lolita-Artz) over at DeviantArt.. (Click on the image for the artist’s post and a larger view.)

This piece just made me take a mental step back. I don’t know if it’s the fluidic detail of the blood or the attacker’s creepy face. Either way, it kind of makes me not want to drive through a cemetery anytime soon. (Click on the image for the artist’s post and a larger view.)

Runner Up:

This week’s Horror NerdArt of the Week Runner-Up is The Warehouse by Tohdraws over at DeviantArt.

This made me think of a really twisted anime. Een though the art style feels mostly western (to me at least), there’s something about the man’s expression that says anime. And the idea of a giant stuffed toy cat with tentacles coming out of it is creepy as hell. I’d feel bad for the guy, but he should have muted his phone. (Click on the image for the artist’s post and a larger view.)

Okay, so that’s it for this week. If you find something really cool or you make something really cool, post a link in the comments to let me know!
