Weekly NerdArt Picks | 2-15-17

For the most part, my searching is kept to DeviantArt and Art Station. This isn’t for any philosophical reason, rather it’s just for convenience. This week, most of my picks ended up being from Art Station. There were plenty of other great works, but these are the ones I liked the most. I will say, though, there was a fantastic set of twin rapiers on DeviantArt that I almost picked. They’re gorgeous. Alas, they did not quite make the cut.

Science Fiction

Top Pick:

Two words: Cowboy Bebop. I mean, c’mon, is there anything that competes with that? And, it’s Spikes Swordfish II.

Runner Up:

This one is cool. I find the idea of a post-human future to be interesting. Here we have some type of android giving a human the Shakespeare/Horatio deal. There’s something poetic about that.

Fantasy

Top Pick:

I love this kind of thing, the raw, almost sketch-like quality to it. To me, the indistinctness makes it stronger. I could easily see this as part of a book cover.

Runner Up:

This is for some card game (digital or not, I’m not sure) that is coming soon. However, this gives me the idea that magic has nautical/navigational aspect to it. I love it when there is a science applied to whatever arcane elements a fantasy world has, and this strongly implies that “science.”

Horror

Top pick:

What did I say about worms? Well, tentacles aren’t far off. This one has a bit of a Cthulu feel in a cyberpunk setting. I’d watch that. Or read it.

Runner Up:

This is not explicitly horror. However, the scene is set up just right so that there is an underlying fear that something is hiding in the shadows, just waiting to consume some souls and/or flesh.

That’s it for this week. If you find something really cool or you make something really cool, post a link in the comments to let me know!
